All about CAKES (storage information, serving instructions, and more) :)
Hi there! Thank you for choosing Feed My Paws! πΎ
Here you'll find everything you need to know about storing, defrosting, heating and serving your cake, as well as some important feeding tips to help your furkid enjoy their cake safely. :)
π CAKE STORAGE
Please refrigerate your cake as soon as possible after receiving it, preferably within 1.5 hours.
Refrigerated: Keep for up to 3 days, including the day of collection/delivery.
Frozen: If frozen promptly upon receiving it, your cake can be kept for up to 2 weeks.
As our cakes are made with fresh meat, vegetables and other fresh ingredients, they should always be kept chilled when not being served.
π΄ HOW MUCH CAKE SHOULD I FEED?
As tempting as it may be to let your furkid finish the entire cake, portion control is important!
Eating too much of any rich or unfamiliar food at once can cause digestive upset, including diarrhoea and/or vomiting.
If your dog or cat isn't accustomed to the ingredients in our cakes or normally eats a very different diet, we recommend starting with a smaller portion.
As a general guide, you can replace approximately half of their usual meal with cake, rather than feeding a full meal followed by a large portion of cake.
Every pet is different, so please take your pet's size, usual diet and individual tolerance into consideration when deciding how much to serve.
βοΈ HOW DO I DEFROST MY CAKE?
If your cake has been frozen, the best way to defrost it is in the refrigerator overnight.
Please do not leave the cake at room temperature to defrost.
Need it sooner? You can use the thaw/defrost function on your microwave until the cake is fully defrosted.
π₯ DO I HAVE TO HEAT UP THE CAKE?
Nope! Our cakes can be served chilled or warmed. :)
That said, warming the cake releases more of its aroma, which many dogs and cats absolutely love!
Taking birthday photos? Take them before heating the cake, as the frosting may soften or lose its shape once warmed.
Why is my cake so firm when chilled?
This is completely normal.
Our meat cakes are made predominantly with lean meat, together with egg and vegetables. Cooked lean meat naturally becomes very firm when refrigerated.
We don't add ingredients simply to create a softer, more cake-like texture, so your cake may be considerably firmer than a human cake when served straight from the fridge.
If you find it difficult to cut, warming it slightly will soften it considerably.
β¨οΈ HOW DO I HEAT UP MY CAKE?
Once your cake has been fully defrosted, you can use the following microwave timings as a guide:
Pupcake / Cupcake:
Approximately 20 seconds on HIGH
3-inch / Bento Cake:
Approximately 1 minute on HIGH
4-inch Cake:
Approximately 1 minute 30 seconds on HIGH
Microwave strengths vary, so please adjust accordingly.
Always check the centre and temperature of the cake before feeding and make sure it is comfortably warm β never hot.
Don't have a microwave? You can also warm the cake using a steamer or oven.
Only heat the portion you intend to serve. Keep the remaining cake refrigerated until your furkid is ready for their next serving.
β° HOW LONG CAN I LEAVE THE CAKE OUT?
We recommend keeping your cake refrigerated until close to serving time.
As a general maximum, the cake should not be left out for more than 4 hours in an air-conditioned environment.
If you're outdoors, in a warm room, or under the hot Singapore sun, this time should be considerably shorter.
Any cake that has been left out beyond the recommended period should be discarded rather than refrigerated again.
π§ I PURCHASED A FROZEN CAKE. HOW DO I SERVE IT?
Simply follow the defrosting instructions above.
For best results, transfer your frozen cake to the refrigerator and allow it to defrost overnight.
If you need to serve it sooner, use your microwave's thaw/defrost function until it is fully defrosted.
Once defrosted, you can serve it chilled or warm it using the recommended timings above.
And of course β take your photos before warming it! πΈπΆπ
